NetApp Unveils New Flash Array, OS; Lawrence James Comments

NetAppLogoNetApp has released an all-flash array and operating system intended to update its enterprise-level unified storage arrays, Computer Weekly reports.

Antony Adshead writes the EF540, or Engenio, is the company’s first all-flash array with 9.6 terabytes or 19.2 terabytes of enterprise multi-level cell memory in 12- or 24-drive slots.

Lawrence James, NetApp U.K. alliances and solutions products manager, told Computer Weekly the company has tested the array for structured data environments in Oracle, Sybase, SAP, Lustre and HPFS-built systems

The company has also released the FlashRay operating system, which is intended to be optimized for flash memory and have features such as data deduplication, compression, snapshots and replication.

James told the website the company is aiming to become a visionary in the flash marketplace and by building a scale-out operating system for flash memory.
