Ollanta Humala, Peru’s president, used Cisco video conferencing systems to greet students as they started a new school year.
Humala used a Cisco TelePresence 3000 system, based at the government palace, to communicate with students via a high-definition connection, Cisco said Tuesday.
He also used the Cisco WebEx collaboration platform to communicate with 191 schools all over Peru.
“Technology has a key role to improve educational quality and to reduce the social inclusion gap imperative in the country,” said Alba San Martin, Cisco country manager for Peru and Bolivia.
Other government officials attending included Sra Patricia Salas, minister of education; Martin Vegas, deputy minister of pedagogical management; Midori De Habich, minister of health; and Carolina Trivelli, minister of social development and inclusion.
