Bill Varner, ManTech

Bill Varner is the president and chief operating officer of ManTech International Corp.’s mission, cyber and intelligence solutions group.

The MCIS group is responsible for ManTech’s business in the intelligence, defense and civil communities. This group also provides technical support, systems engineering, information technology and operations and cybersecurity support.

Varner was previously vice president of intelligence operations for Northrop Grumman-TASC, prior to TASC becoming a stand-alone company. At TASC, he managed over 1,000 employees responsible for delivering technical solutions and operations support to the defense and intelligence communities.

Varner was also vice president of TASC’s signal and information processing group. In this role, he was responsible for hardware and software development and specialized systems engineering.

Varner has also worked for ESL Inc., where he developed adaptive-speech and signal-processing systems and advanced simulations of complex systems.

ManTech said Varner works with several universities and schools to support science, technology, engineering and math programs. The company says he also works to improve the applicability, attractiveness and quality of cybersecurity and policy education.

He is a member of the University of Maryland-University College‘s cyber think tank, the Intelligence and National Security Alliance‘s board of directors and the National Defense Industrial Association‘s science and engineering board.

He earned his bachelor’s degree from George Washington University and his master’s degree from Purdue University. Varner also holds an M.B.A. from Virginia Tech.

Varner also holds advanced studies certificates from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, Harvard University, the University of Virginia Darden School and the California Institute of Technology.

Varner was inducted into George Washington University’s School of Engineering Hall of Fame in 2011.
