Software AG has launched an in-memory big data intelligence platform that aims to help customers automate business processes and manage risk in real-time.

The Terracotta In-Genius database manager is designed to bring real-time data to and from enterprise-wide desktop computers, laptops, mobile devices and point-of-sale terminals, Software AG said Wednesday.

Scheduled for release in third quarter 2013, the in-memory platform will run on Terracotta Inc.’s BigMemory 4.0 data management system.

Retail, finance and logistics customers could use the systems to derive data on customer databases and supply management, according to Software AG.

“The proliferation of devices has dramatically changed the requirements for IT organizations chartered with the gathering, management, analysis and delivery of important data and insights,” said Robin Gilthorpe, CEO of the Terracotta unit.

“The emergence of the industrial Internet and machine-to-machine communications means billions of sensors are now a new type of client, adding further complexity,” he added.
