CA Technologies has agreed to acquire an application programming interface management and security company for an undisclosed amount in a move aimed at expanding CA’s API portfolio.
Layer 7 Technologies develops its API management and security products for customers to use both on-premise and in a cloud computing environment, CA said Monday.
CA intends for Layer 7 Technologies’ products to complement CA’s identity and access management suites, CA SiteMinder and CA LISA.
Mike Denning, CA general manager for security, said the company aims to help organizations carry out initiatives for cloud computing, mobility and the “Internet of Things.”
“We use APIs every day, whether accessing flight data from our mobile device, using Google Maps from a hotel website or making payments online,” said Paul Rochester, Layer 7 CEO.
“There are billions of API calls a day and that number is going to increase with the proliferation of smart devices, ranging from vehicles, meters, TVs and other devices, as they start interacting over APIs,” he said.
CA aims for the acquisition to help grow its network of API developers and help them acquire tools to discover, publish and test the interfaces, the company said.
