CGI Group‘s Logica subsidiary has developed a new mobile application intended for athletes to notify anti-doping authorities of their current location in order to be ready for drug tests.
The World Anti-Doping Agency selected the whereabouts app to help manage its database containing details on where athletes are at a given time, CGI said Tuesday.
Athletes type in their whereabouts into the app, currently available on Android and iOS, and receive reminders to send WADA their location data.
Ron de Mos, senior vice president and general manager of CGI in the Netherlands, estimated that more than 25,000 athletes worldwide will start using the app.
CGI partnered with the Dutch Doping Authority, InnoSportNL and NOC*NSF to develop the app.
According to the company, 98 of the nearly 170 Dutch participants in the 2012 Summer Olympics used the app, representing 58 percent of the Dutch Olympic team.
