Semiconductor manufacturers Intel Corp. and ARM Holdings have begun building mobile transaction platforms to boost their presence in the mobile device market, according to a DigiTimes article.
Intel is leveraging a partnership forged with Visa in 2012 to enable Intel-based smartphones to support mobile payments and ARM is developing a trusted execution environment (TEE) security standard for mobile devices, Monica Chen and Joseph Chai write.
Intel-based mobile devices will get Visa’s mobile service support only after a Visa PayWave certification and ARM has established the Trustonic venture with security software designers Gemalto and Giesecke & Devrient.
ARM integrated its Trustzone security technology with Giesecke & Devrient‘s smart card technologies and Gemalto‘s near field communication technologies to create TEE, which allows mobile devices to conduct online transactions.
