MitreLogoMITRE Corp. and Princeton University have teamed-up to engineer quantum technologies designed to address cybersecurity, financial engineering and data mining needs for the U.S.

As part of the collaboration, MITRE and Princeton have opened a quantum optics laboratory in the university’s Forrestal Campus, N.J. to house scientists and engineers who will research optimization, operations research and power engineering, according to a MITRE statement.

“This model brings academia to bear on a wide range of issues, and, working side-by-side, we can expedite solutions to complex challenges,“ said Richard Byrne, senior vice president and general manager of MITRE’s command and control center.

PrincetonThe team stems from collaborative research on quantum error correction and quantum computing in 2006, initiated by Gerald Gilbert, MITRE’s quantum information science head.

QIS integrates physical science, mathematics, computer science and engineering to improve the acquisition, transmission and processing of information.

More than 50 people, including Princeton faculty and MITRE executives, attended the opening of the Forrestal Campus facility.
