Northrop Launches Drone Building and Flying Competition in UAE; Gene Fraser Comments

NorthropLogoNorthrop Grumman has announced the start to the 2013 Innovation Challenge Flying Competition in the United Arab Emirates.

Serving as a sponsor for the third year, Northrop Grumman is working with the Higher Colleges of Technology, Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Investment and the Association for Unmanned Vehicles Systems International.

During the two-day competition at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, participating students will demonstrate UAVs they have designed and built.

Northrop Grumman engineers have mentored 11 teams from HCT, according to the company.

“Through this competition, Northrop Grumman helps contribute to Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030,” said Gene Fraser, company programs, quality and engineering corporate vice president.

“The program allows students to combine their academic knowledge with practical experience as they prepare to enter a competitive work environment. We are proud to sponsor this event and look forward to an exciting competition,” he added.

Northrop will award the winning team with an all-expense-paid trip to the AUVSI convention in August, held in Washington, DC.
