PowerplantSiemens and Bechtel will jointly build the third Panda power plant in Texas as the companies are aiming to advance the natural gas market in the U.S.

The companies are aiming to combine Siemens’ natural gas and steam turbines and waste heat recovery boilers with Bechtel“™s engineering, procurement, and construction portfolio, Bechtel said Thursday.

Panda Temple II will be a 758-megawatt, natural gas-fueled power plant in Temple, Texas and is one of three plants the companies are building in the state.

“This project, along with Panda Temple I and Panda Sherman, represents more than 2,200 megawatts of clean power,“ said Alasdair Cathcart, president of Bechtel“™s power business.

Siemens and Bechtel are currently building the Panda Temple I generating station near the Panda Temple II and the Panda Sherman power project in Sherman.

Scheduled for completion in 2015, the power plant construction project will create around 800 jobs and supply electricity to approximately 750,000 households in the Central Texas region, the companies said.
