Amazon Web Services Gains FedRAMP Status

Amazon Web Services logoAmazon Web Services has been certified by a federal government body for passing evaluation, assessment and monitoring standards of cloud computing systems, PC Magazine reports.

Stephanie Mlot writes the FedRAMP certification comes as the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services granted AWS authority to operate licenses on four cloud services available to federal government agencies.

“The assessment and associated ATOs have been registered in the FedRAMP repository and allow government agencies to evaluate AWS’ security and the opportunity to store, process, and maintain a diverse array of sensitive government data within the AWS cloud,” Amazon said in an FAQ.

Mlot reports AWS services covered under ATO certifications include its Elastic Compute Cloud, Simple Storage Service, Virtual Private Cloud and Elastic Block Store.
