An EADS business has won an order from a China-based electricity provider for three helicopters intended to support power grid work and emergency rescue operations in the country.
State Grid General Aviation Co., a subsidiary of State Grid Corp. of China, intends for the deal to grow a multiyear aircraft supply and services agreement with EADS’ Eurocopter unit, EADS said Wednesday.
SGGAC is expanding its airlift services to include aerial survey, passenger and freight transport, infrastructure and experimental research.
Eurocopter expects to deliver the AS350 B3e rotocraft later this year and the two EC225 helicopters in 2015.
The AS350 B3e belongs to the Ecureuil class of lightweight helicopters used in China, while the EC225 is an 11-ton helicopter used for offshore and search-and-rescue operations.
SGGAC has been using the helicopters since last year to service power lines.
