EM Logo_ExecutiveBizAs the federal government ramps up spending on infrastructure, contracting firms have begun winning more transportation contracts for railways, roads and traffic analytics.

This month saw a flurry of activity as Parsons, Serco, Siemens and KBR all won contracts to improve infrastructure in various areas around the U.S.

ExecutiveBiz wrote about two contracts Parsons recently won including the lead position on a $1.5 billion project to replace the Goethals Bridge between New York and New Jersey.

The firm was also selected to design the first segment of a $1 billion high-speed rail system in California that is supposed to consume one-third and one-fifth of the energy used by an airplane and a car, respectively.

Serco’s contract is for six-years and $355 million and is to manage all five transportation operations facilities and safety service patrols in the state of Virginia.

Cameras, electronic message signs and road sensors will be utilized by the company to monitor traffic across the state.

In another rail contract, Siemens has delivered the first three of 70 total electric locomotives that are meant for use on the Keystone Corridor route from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, Pa.

The locomotives were delivered under a $466 million contract signed in 2010.

KBR’s recent contract is to design a road rail separation covering approximately 1.1 miles of track in Victoria, Australia,

The preliminary design, detailed engineering design and providing technical advice to alliance partner John Holland are all part of the rail project.
