General Dynamics Canada, and DRS Technologies have entered into a partnership with Alenia Aermacchi as part of the Royal Canadian Air Force’s project to update its fixed-wing search and rescue replacement program.
Under the partnership, the companies will update Aermacchi’s C-27J Spartan, a medium tactical military aircraft, according to an Alenia Aermacchi statement.
General Dynamics Canada will be the project mission system integrator and perform modification, mission-readiness and support in Atlantic Canada where it will be responsible for modifying the aircraft to accept high tech sensors.
DRS will provide the long-term training support for the RCAF.
Ben Stone, Alenia Aermacchi North America president and CEO, said together, the team has more than “100 years of experience supporting Canadians and Armed Forces around the world.”
Dubbing themselves Team Spartan, the companies are looking for local companies to serve as potential subcontractors on the project.
