Harris Corp. and SAVIS Tecnologia e Sistemas S/A are partnering to help implement a new communications system for Brazil to monitor their western border.
The pilot phase of SISFRON will have Harris supply tactical communications subsystems, accessories, software, services and related support to the Brazilian army, Harris said Tuesday.
SAVIS Tecnologia e Sistemas S/A is the prime contractor for the program and Harris will provide Falcon III 7800 communications systems for the program’s initial phase.
Brazil intends for SISFRON to cover its entire interior border, encompassing more than 9,900 miles of territory that divides 11 Brazilian states and 10 neighboring countries.
“This important program significantly expands our presence with the Brazilian Army in support of their communications modernization requirements,” said Dana Mehnert, group president for Harris’ RF communications business.
SISFRON’s pilot phase will cover nearly 403 miles of border territory, Harris said.
