Intel Picks Up Telecom Firm Aepona to Expand Cloud Portfolio

IntelLogoIntel has acquired Ireland-based telecommunications firm Aepona for an undisclosed amount in a move aimed at expanding Intel’s future network and cloud services portfolio, the Irish Times reports.

Ciara O’Brien writes Aepona has more than 300 employees in Belfast, Dublin Sri Lanka and the U.S.

Aepona’s products included OneAPI technology, intended to help mobile carriers to expedite new service launches, and an application gateway based on Parlay standards developed in 2002.

Gilbert Little, former owner of telecom companies Aldiscon and Alpion, co-founded Aepona in 1999, O’Brien writes.

Aepona bought digital payments company Valista in 2009, intending to add new revenue management and product merchandising offerings to its portfolio, according to the report.
