Siemens to Build Wind Farm for NNSA - top government contractors - best government contracting event

SIEMENS logo_ExecutiveBizSiemens Government Technologies has won a 20-year contract from the National Nuclear Security Administration to build a wind farm for supplying electricity to a plant in Texas.

The facility will have five 2.3-megawatt turbines on 1,500 acres of land east of the Pantex plant in Amarillo, Siemens said Tuesday.

NNSA manages the country's nuclear weapons, nuclear nonproliferation and naval reactor programs.

According to the company, the plant will deliver $2.9 million in annual cost savings over the energy savings performance contract’s full life-span.

The plant will generate electricity that is equivalent to supplying power to 3,500 homes, according to the company.

Under the ESPC, Siemens will provide a turnkey wind farm system which includes a multi-year service, maintenance and warranty agreement.

Energy savings fund the cost of ESPC contracts and are intended to help federal facilities fulfill a presidential directive to agencies and support the Energy Department‘s renewable energy.
