TASCGCETASC Inc. has raised $22,000 in matching funds to help Building Homes for Heroes renovate the Texas house of Army Specialist Andrew Toppin, who was severely injured during a mission in Iraq.

The company said Thursday employees organized fundraising events at its sites nationwide to mark the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

“Although Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, we should not forget its meaning ““ to recognize the sacrifices of the men and women who put themselves in harm's way to protect our nation,” said John Hynes, TASC’s chief operating officer.

Fundraisers this week included a chili cook-off in San Antonio, a wear-jeans-to-work day in Andover, Mass., and an employee lunch in San Diego.

Toppin received a Purple Heart and numerous other honors after losing his right leg when his Humvee was attacked.

“We appreciate their sacrifices, and we are proud to contribute to Building Homes for Heroes and help make life a little easier for our wounded warriors when they come home,” Hynes added.
