Richard Adhikari writes that the two companies, which demonstrated the 5 foot-5 inch product at the ongoing InfoComm 2013, expect a product rollout by early 2014.
The Ava 500, developed to run on Cisco's TelePresence technology, could be used in a number of settings, such as corporate training, lab site tours, and manufacturing and factory inspections, Cisco spokesperson Christine Johansen told TechNewsWorld.
“(The device) is designed with very specific needs in mind“”situations where a user needs both video and freedom of movement,” she added.
The Ava 500 is equipped with Cisco’s Aironet 1600 for wireless communications and comes with laser, sonar, and 3D imaging sensors for autonomous navigation.
The product is customizable, with an iPad-like interface that permits gesture, voice and touch control, and is compatible with any standard video collaboration tool.
