EADS North America Sends Maritime Patrol Aircraft to Coast Guard

HC-144AEADS North America has sent the U.S. Coast Guard a new airplane intended for maritime patrol missions involving border surveillance, disaster response and search-and-rescue operations.

The HC-144A Ocean Sentry is modeled after Airbus Military‘s CN235 tactical airlifter, which currently operates in 29 countries, EADS North America said Wednesday.

Ocean Sentry planes are designed to fly for up to 10 hours.

The Coast Guard has 15 of the plans and intends to have 36 total in its fleet.

EADS North America said it will deliver three more planes to the Coast Guard this year and in 2014.
