BigDataNIHThe National Institutes of Health wants the public to give the agency ideas for a project aimed at creating a big data catalog for storing biomedical research.

NIH intends for its interagency Big Data to Knowledge project to fulfill a working group’s recommendations on how the agency can use big data, a June 6 request for information says.

That group discussed how the agency can establish minimal and relevant metadata to facilitate data sharing, broad adoption of standards for data retrieval, as well as data citation and adoption of the catalog by the biomedical community.

Respondents are being asked to submit information on the risks, benefits and feasibility of a data catalog, ease of use, level of granularity of a data entry and appropriate metrics of a successful catalog.
