Saab Builds AUV for Minesweeping, Training Missions - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Saab Builds AUV Saab has created a new automotive underwater vehicle for mine reconnaissance and anti-submarine warfare training, Wired reported Monday.

Keith Barry writes the AUV62 amphibious drone behaves and shows up on radar like a real submarine with its acoustic payload and travel speeds of up to 20 knots.

It runs on batteries and can be controlled automatically or programmed to follow a certain undersea route at depths below 1,500 feet, with built-in features that let it avoid colliding with other ships.

The report said a number of navies are already using the AUV for training missions and minesweeping.
