Dell Updates Cloud-Based Virtualization Software; Jeff McNaught Comments

DellLogoDell has unveiled an update to its desktop and application virtualization software portfolio with new features designed to help customers deploy and configure cloud servers.

Version 6 of Wyse WSM aims to help users deliver operating system images on-demand to virtual or physical machines, Dell said Tuesday.

Jeff McNaught, executive director of marketing for Dell’s cloud client computing business, said the latest offering is intended for organizations seeking to optimize their information technology systems.

The software is designed to support up to 64-bit applications and help customers stream their desktop using VMware ESX 5.1 and Windows Server Hyper-V.

Dell says the update also aims to manage basic input and output system settings on Dell’s pre-configured cloud desktops and the Wyse WSM server.

The company is offering customers a starter kit and is scheduled to release the update this month through its channel partners.
