amazon logoAmazon intends to offer 5,000 job opportunities at its distribution centers in the U.S. in line with its long-term business expansion strategies, The Washington Post reported Monday.

Cecilia Kang writes the company will soon hire new employees at 17 offices that pack, process and supply orders with a goal to save operational costs and time in delivery procedures.

“We're focused on sustained innovation across Amazon and want to help our employees succeed whether at Amazon or elsewhere,“ said Dave Clark, Amazon vice president of worldwide operations and customer service.

The company reported a $7 million loss in the second quarter and expects to encounter future losses in the short term in light of the growth plans.

“We are investing for the large opportunity we have in front of us,“ Tom Szkutak, Amazon chief financial officer, told reporters ahead of the company’s latest earnings report.
