Alion Creates Navy Ship-to-Ship Ramp; Pete Flemming Comments - top government contractors - best government contracting event

AlionAlion Science and Technology has developed a ramp designed for ship-to-ship transfers under a contract from the Office of Naval Research, the Maritime Reporter said in its August 2013 issue.

According to the article, the Transfer At Sea technology seeks to counterbalance the force of winds as fast as 24.1 miles per hour and sea waves as high as 8.2 feet.

Transfer At Sea aims to help create a more stable platform for operations in choppy waters.

Pete Flemming, vice president and manager of ship design operation at Alion, told the publication the company developed an articulating platform and sliding foot for the system.

“These components automatically compensate for the varying movements of the two ships,“ he added.

A full-scale model will undergo a field demonstration in the coming weeks, according to the report.
