EMC is considering investing in a center for big data and cloud computing services in Johannesburg, South Africa, BDlive reported Monday.
Thabiso Mochiko writes the firm operates centers of excellence in seven countries and could pursue an expansion through a black economic empowerment program.
Servaas Venter, EMC country manager for the South African region, said the group is building a business case for a big data facility, according to the report.
Venter added that interest in big data platforms is growing as organizations realize the technology’s positive impact on decision-making and risk management.
The article notes EMC is also looking to open offices in Mozambique and Namibia.
