Lockheed Martin BlueLockheed Martin will work with Spaceflight, TriSept and Tyvak Nano-Satellite Systems to link containerized payload systems bound for two-year rideshare missions in orbit starting 2015.

The undertaking seeks to help Athena rockets from Alaska's Kodiak Launch Complex deploy CubeSat miniature satellites into a poly-picosatellite orbital deployer configuration, Lockheed said Wednesday.

“We are very pleased to offer this significant enhancement for CubeSat customers using Athena launch services,“ said Robert R. Cleave, president of commercial launch services at Lockheed Martin.

Under their respective contracts with Lockheed, each company will work to conduct engineering analyses, certification and final integration of the CubeSat satellites to the launch vehicle.

Lockheed says CubeSats were designed for meteorological functions, from academic research and field training to federal and commercial space missions.

The company's planned missions set to occur two years from now are meant to launch a combination of three types of CubSat satellites or 24 P-PODs from the Athena.
