cablesMellanox Technologies Ltd. has acquired interconnect technology firm Kotura Inc. for nearly $82 million as Mellanox looks to further develop server and storage services for customers.

Mellanox will integrate Kotura“™s silicon photonics optical interconnect technology into its portfolio and convert the latter’s Monterey Park, Calif.-based location into a research and development facility, Mellanox said Thursday.

Eyal Waldman, president and CEO of Mellanox Technologies, said the buy of Kotura aims to help Mellanox extend its interconnect offerings to more than 100 gigabytes per second.

The InfiniBand and Ethernet interconnect service provider aims for the acquisition to expand its offerings in Web 2.0, cloud, data center, database, financial services and storage applications.
