LTEGridMotorola Solutions and Verizon are partnering to connect first responders and other emergency personnel to 4G LTE wireless networks across the U.S.

The companies intend for Motorola Solutions’ vehicle-based modem to operate on Verizon’s 4G LTE wireless network and any other LTE-based public safety network, the companies said Wednesday.

Verizon says its 4G LTE network provides users Internet connections that are up to 10 times faster than 3G.

“Public safety agencies across the U.S. are actively looking to upgrade aging equipment and deploy advanced mobile broadband technologies to meet increasingly complex challenges,” said Dominic DeMark, area vice president for public safety markets at Verizon Enterprise Solutions.

DeMark added the companies aim to help first responders share information and collaborate during emergency responses by using mobile broadband technology.

Motorola Solutions’ VML 700 LTE Vehicle Modem R1.1 is also intended to act as a mobile hotspot for first responders in the field and support FirstNet, intended as the country’s future interoperable national public safety network.

Rishi Bhaskar, vice president of private broadband sales at Motorola Solutions, said the companies aim to connect first responders with each other on local, regional and national levels.
