The Northern Virginia Technology Council is partnering with Monster.com to advance employment initiatives for veterans in the Washington D.C. area.
The collaboration seeks to match veteran skills with private enterprise requirements, Monster Worldwide said Tuesday.
Steve Cooker, executive vice president for global government solutions for Monster Worldwide, said the project aligns with the company's goals to bring employment opportunities to the region.
“We're part of the Northern Virginia business community and we saw this NVTC initiative bringing all of those elements together right in our backyard,“ he added.
The partnership was announced at an event attended by Governor Bob McDonnell and Senator Mark Warner.
“The NVTC Veterans Employment Initiative is about bringing together the technology business community with our region's academic institutions and policymakers to create an ecosystem where veterans' skills and talents are matched to private sector needs,“ said NVTC President and CEO Bobbie Kilberg.
“Our goal is to increase veteran employment in Virginia's technology community and expedite veterans' transition into civilian employment,“ Kilberg added.
NVTC member employers will have posting capabilities and free access to the veteran resume database with more than 800,000 veteran resumes.
