Iridium Communications has selected three students to receive scholarships under an initiative that aims to support students in the field of aerospace engineering.
Eric McVay from the University of Alabama together with Christopher Nie and Chelsea Welch from the University of Colorado will receive the grants under the Iridium NEXT Mission Team Scholarship program, the company said Thursday.
Boeing, Lockheed Martin, MDA, SEAKR, SpaceX and Thales Alenia Space also contribute funding for the program and also serve as partners in the Iridium NEXT satellite constellation.
“We’re very excited to build on the success of last year’s program through the selection of the three outstanding students for the Iridium NEXT
Mission Team scholarship,” said Scott Smith, Iridium chief operating officer.
The grants are intended for students that help Iridium develop the NEXT satellites through internships with the company and its partners.
