Verizon is one of 10 vendors that have won potential $1 billion contracts from the Interior Department for cloud-hosting services over the next decade.
DOI intends for the cloud computing infrastructure to serve nearly 70,000 employees at more than 2,400 locations in the country, Verizon said Friday.
Susan Zeleniak, senior vice president for public sector markets at Verizon Enterprise Solutions, said the award represents an expansion of a collaborative effort to help the agency meet information technology goals.
The company will compete for storage, file transfer, virtual machine, database, web hosting, development, test environment and SAP application projects under the Foundation Cloud Hosting Services vehicle.
DOI seeks to update its IT infrastructure and aims to save $100 million per year starting in 2016.
