Bae-systems-logo_ExecutiveBiz1BAE Systems will help produce hydrogen-powered vehicles as part of a $13.6 million U.S. Department of Transportation program that aims to develop fuel cells for commercial use, Hydrogen Fuel News reported Sept. 16.

Alicia Moore writes work on three of eight projects that the DOT selected under the initiative will take place at the HybriDrive Solutions plant in BAE in New York.

The article says BAE will work to manufacture buses that can utilize fuel cells as a partner of Ballard Power Systems, SunLife Transit Authority and ElDorado National.

The British aerospace, defense and security firm’s New York facility has a laboratory with tools designed to determine the capabilities of hydrogen fuel cells to run vehicles, Moore reports.

Hydrogen Fuel News notes Ballard Power Systems, which launched one of the projects, is expected to play a significant role on the DOT initiative as a prominent developer of fuel cell systems.
