BAE Systems has won a $31.8 million contract to equip U.S. Navy machines guns with electro-optical sensors designed to defend ships against small and agile threats, Military Aerospace and Electronics reported Wednesday.
John Keller writes the company will add a two-axis stabilization tool, day/night electro-optical sensors and a laser range finder to 29 MK 38 shipboard machine guns by March 2015.
The contract also covers MK 38 Mod 2 ordnance alteration kits, hardware and spare parts such as 12 Toplite assemblies, five multi-function displays, an assistance module kit and five battery chargers.
Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. and BAE partnered to build the Mk 38 Mod 2 machine gun system, Keller reports.
