Cobham has launched a new cellular platform that works to deliver tactical interoperable communications across 2G, 3G and 4G networks.
Explorer Mobile Net is built to connect with mobile devices over a distance of up to four miles and offer global voice, data and video features when used with Cobham satellite terminals, the company said Tuesday.
The system uses SiRRAN Communications software that is designed to accommodate many concurrent device registrations and multiple simultaneous user sessions.
“Mobile, or cellular, networks is an important driver of satellite services and the advent of higher bandwidth solutions and smart devices is opening new market opportunities,” said Walther Thygesen, vice president of Cobham SATCOM.
Cobham designed Explorer Mobile Net with a rugged case for customers to deploy the system quickly on areas including land, sea, and air.
Users can throttle back the platform’s data throughput when transmitting information over a wide area network, Cobham says.
