Exelis has started to supply encryptors to Raytheon for the U.S. Air Force‘s GPS operational control system on the ground.
The encryptors are built to help ground station controllers exchange and transmit data between the stations and satellite constellations in orbit based on a satellite“™s position in space, Exelis said Monday.
Kevin Farrell, Exelis general manager for geospatial systems positioning, navigation and timing, said the company delivered the first three out of 14 encryptors to Raytheon.
Farrell added Exelis is working to help further develop the Air Force’s GPS system for military and civilian usage.
Exelis is also developing receivers and signal simulators for the satellites and is also commissioned to provide payloads to Lockheed Martin for the GPS III modernization project.
