Harris Corp. has received $38 million in orders from the U.S. Air Force for tactical radios as the branch intends to accelerate deployment of a radio system designed for wideband tactical communications.

The Falcon III AN/PRC-117G multiband manpack and AN/PRC-152A multiband handheld tactical radio systems are intended for para-rescue and combat communications through the Joint Tactical Radio System, Harris said Wednesday.

George Helm, president of Harris RF Communications’ Defense Department business, said the company built the radios with two-channel communications features and wideband networking to link users to the Global Information Grid.

“Harris' Falcon III radios provide secure voice communications and enable operators to send and receive images, video, e-mails, text messages and even participate in teleconferences,” Helm added.

All U.S. military branches and 15 allied nations have received more than 40,000 of the AN/PRC-117G and AN/PRC-152A units to date, Harris said.

The radios are designed to integrate beyond-line-of-sight, line-of-sight and wideband communications.
