In-Q-Tel is investing in cloud-based software developer Socrata to help further develop the latter’s technology that aims to help organizations visualize and share mission-critical information.
Socrata created a platform to convert raw data from different sources into applications, reports, dashboards, maps and application programming interfaces, In-Q-Tel said Tuesday.
“Our focus with open data has always been to develop innovations that make enterprise data useful for the other 99% of users who are not data scientists by training,” said Kevin Merritt, founder and CEO of Socrata.
Robert Ames, In-Q-Tel senior vice president of information and communications technologies, said the company aims for Socrata’s analysis and visualization system to support government agencies’ missions.
Data.gov, Medicare, EnergyStar and the World Bank are among the enterprises that have adopted Socrata data sharing platform as part of their open innovation strategies, In-Q-Tel says.
