Northrop Grumman Corp. has opened a manned aircraft design center of excellence in Melbourne, Florida, as part of efforts to align its offerings with the customers' requirements.
Northrop Grumman expects the new facility to create an additional 1,000 jobs over the next four years in Melbourne where it already has more than 1,200 employees, the company said Friday.
Tom Vice, corporate vice president and president of Northrop Grumman aerospace systems business, said the company aims for the center of excellence to meet the needs of customers, the company and the community through its workforce.
Florida Gov. Rick Scott, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson and other federal, state, regional and local delegates joined in the dedication ceremony of the facility.
Northrop Grumman recently started work on the 200,000-square-foot building at its current campus adjacent to the Melbourne International Airport and plans to complete the new building in 2014.
