BAE Systems has completed the preliminary design review phase of aircraft survivability and protection technology the company is developing for the U.S. Army and Navy.

Common Infrared Countermeasure systems work to defend Army and Navy helicopters against infrared-guided threats, BAE announced Monday.

“With more than 14,000 hours of test data on production representative hardware, this milestone feels a lot more like a critical design review than a PDR,” said Bill Staib, BAE director of threat management solutions.

BAE won the contract to produce the CIRCM technology in 2012 and will test the systems later this year.
