L-3 Communications‘ TRL Technology unit and Avanti Communications will collaborate to provide a Ka-band satellite service to international defense and government organizations.
The offering is for clients who use L-3’s Catapan network encryption device and works to support a range of transportable and fixed nodes, L-3 said Friday.
Adrian Cunningham, L-3 TRL vice president and national security division head, said the service is intended to help agencies stay connected in all weather conditions.
According to L-3, the Ka-band system provides users data transfer rates of up to 10 megabits per second.
The alliance will offer Ka-band as part of a bundled airtime package that also includes commercial off-the-shelf modems designed to secure mobile communications.
