BAE Systems to Build $39M Facility Near Indiana Airport; Jeff Benzing Comments

Bae-systems-logo_ExecutiveBiz1BAE Systems intends to build a new $39 million manufacturing plant near the Fort Wayne, Ind. international airport, Journal Gazette reported Monday.

Dan Stockman writes the Allen County-Fort Wayne Capital Improvement Board approved a $2.5 million incentive package proposed by BAE Systems, the Fort Wayne Redevelopment Commission and Greater Fort Wayne to retain the company’s operations in the area and preserve 1,100 jobs.

Jeff Benzing, spokesman for BAE Systems, has not confirmed the location of the new facility in Allen County but said the move is meant to happen in the third quarter of 2015, the report said.

Ashley Steenam, representative from Greater Fort Wayne, told Journal Gazette the defense contractor plans to build the plant at Airport Expressway and Ardmore Avenue and invest $3 million per year in the facility over the next five years of operations.
