Boeing and Norway-based Kongsberg Defense Systems have jointly test-fitted a Kongsberg-built joint strike missile onto an F/A-18F Super Hornet aircraft for a compatibility check.
The companies conducted the test at a Boeing facility in St. Louis and evaluated how the missile fits into the Super Hornet’s external pylons, Boeing said Wednesday.
Paul Summers, Boeing F/A-18 innovation and capability growth director, said the company intends for the missile weapon system to help customers counter sea and land threats.
JSM weapons are built to target land and naval objects, Boeing says.
A wind tunnel testing on a Block II Super Hornet is scheduled in early 2014.
