Huntington Ingalls Works to Contain Aircraft Carrier Costs; Matt Mulherin Comments

HHI

HHIHuntington Ingalls Industries has moved to implement cost controls in the USS Gerald Ford’s construction going forward, Reuters reported Friday.

Andrea Shalal-Esa writes the ship is the first of a new aircraft carrier family and was christened Saturday by Susan Ford Bales, daughter of the late former President Gerald Ford.

Matt Mulherin, HII corporate vice president and president of its Newport News Shipbuilding division, told Reuters the company is monitoring overtime, labor costs and work performance as the Ford nears completion.

“We are monitoring the data on a daily and weekly basis to make sure we understand where we are,” he added.

The company is in discussions with the Navy about establishing a new production hall for future aircraft carriers, Shalal-Esa writes.
