A panel of chief information officers from three federal agencies has given IBM a provisional authority to operate under the government-wide Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program for evaluating cloud computing products and services.

CIOs from the departments of Defense and Homeland Security, as well as the General Services Administration, evaluated IBM’s SmartCloud for Government in an effort to align with the federal government’s Cloud First mandate, IBM said Thursday.

“IBM“™s efforts to make the cloud secure extend beyond the current requirements,” said Anne Altman, general manager of IBM’s U.S. federal business.

“Our research teams are exploring the next generation of cloud security and are committed to bringing further innovation to the government in this area,” Altman added.

The company holds other authority-to-operate approvals in the U.S. defense and civilian agency sectors, IBM says.
