The Royal Thai Air Force has tapped Northrop Grumman to supply additional mobile radar systems that will be used to detect small targets even in the harshest environments, starting in 2015.

Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will provide Thailand’s Air Force with the AN/TPS-78 air defense and surveillance radar systems and training, spares and logistics support, the company announced Monday.

Robert Royer, Northrop Grumman vice president of International Systems business unit, said the company has worked with the Royal Thai Air Force for 25 years.

Royer added that the radar will help Thailand monitor it airspace.

Used by the U.S. Air Force and other worldwide customers, the AN/TPS-78 system has logged more than one million operating hours.
