Battelle has partnered with the Independent Community Bankers of America and several small-scale lenders in an effort to help financial institutions secure their electronic information, Business First reported Friday.
Evan Weese writes the research institution aims to address the cybersecurity issues of community banks as these companies upgrade their sites and start mobile applications deployment.
“We’re working with (ICBA) to craft our product to a community bank’s needs as opposed to a global institution,” Ernie Hampson, technical director for the cyber intelligence and counterintelligence group at Battelle, said in an interview.
“I think insider threat is always your most dangerous vulnerability; people who don’t have to break into anything,” Hampson said in the report.
Battelle plans to focus on external attacks, malicious programs and employee risks, the report said. Weese writes Battelle has previously collaborated exclusively with mid-size and large financial customers.
