Cisco, GATR, Global DIRT, Intelsat General and emergency.lu have contributed various ground-based communications equipment to help support the Typhoon Haiyan recovery efforts in the Philippines, Satellite Today reported Thursday.
Caleb Henry writes that GATR deployed seven GATR inflatable systems and two systems to support the Cisco tactical operations mobile team.
The contributions are one of the first high-bandwidth satellite communications terminals deployed in the affected areas.
The CISCO TACOPS team is located on the eastern side of Samar Island to allow local authorities to coordinate transportation, inbound shipment scheduling and food distribution through data services and VoIP calls.
Global DIRT’s GATR system was also used to provide a hospital, at least four non-governmental organizations and air operations for around 100 users with data and voice connections.
Emergency.lu’s GATR system, situated atop the Town Hall building at Ormoc City Hall, was used to provide NGOs in Tacloban with a communications network.
