Parsons and a California county commission have broken ground Wednesday on a $1.3 billion road project intended to connect Riverside County and Orange County.
The Riverside County Transportation Commission aims to extend the State Route-91 tolled express lanes in Orange County to Riverside and Corona cities in order to reduce traffic delays and relieve congestion on streets, Parsons said Thursday.
“Parsons is excited to be assisting RCTC in achieving its goal to improve the overall quality of life for the citizens of Riverside County,“ said Todd Wager, Parsons group president.
“The SR-91 Project will add regular lanes, tolled express lanes, and auxiliary lanes as well as improve interchanges, bridges, ramps, and local streets,“ Wager added.
As project and construction manager, Parsons will work over the next four years to lead design-build and project right-of-way initiatives, install toll systems and negotiate toll operator deals.
The SR-91 Corridor Improvement Project is also intended to provide about 16,200 local jobs, increased access to public transportation access and improve emergency response.
Construction is scheduled to begin early next year with the new lanes slated to be opened in 2017.
