Red Hat has named a student from Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore as the winner of the company’s third regional Next Cloud Generation contest.
Chia Yong Xiang competed against more than 3,400 students from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore during a competition held Thursday in Beijing, Red Hat announced Tuesday.
Yong Xiang won a Samsung Galaxy S4 mobile phone, an internship opportunity with Red hat, a trophy and a certificate of participation.
“Building the Next Cloud Generation” started in November and 12 finalists who used open source technology, public Platform-as-a-Service offerings, OpenShift Online, and Red Hat JBoss Middleware were selected to represent their schools in the final round.
We recognize that there is an increasing demand for professionals in IT functions across Asia and through the challenge, Red Hat offers an opportunity for the students to gain new skill sets and expertise that will prepare them to meet real-world industry demands and enable them to become valuable members for the IT workforce,” said Sachin Shridhar, Red Hat Asia Pacific director of services.
Sun Zi Qian from China was the first-runner up and Chen Mao Qin from Taiwan was the second runner-up.
